Master of Epidemiology Diponegoro University (Undip) held a mentor training activity for the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP). This activity took place for two days at the Ibis Styles Hotel Semarang and was attended by prospective mentors from various Health Offices in Central Java. This training is the first step to prepare field epidemiology mentors for the implementation of Undip’s FETP program.
FETP is a training program that focuses on the field of field epidemiology which aims to produce epidemiologists who are able to face and handle various public health situations, including disease outbreaks, extraordinary events, and other public health problems. With this FETP program, it is expected that reliable health professionals will be created and able to contribute significantly in handling health problems in the community.
This mentor training activity is a strategic step in preparing mentors who will be involved in Undip FETP. The mentors who come from health offices in Central Java will be given various materials and knowledge related to field epidemiology, research methodology, health data analysis, extraordinary event management, and communication skills needed in dealing with complex public health situations.
Dr. drh. Dwi Sutiningsih, M.Kes., Head of Undip’s Master of Epidemiology Study Program, revealed “This mentor training activity is very important in ensuring that mentors who will be involved in Undip’s FETP have adequate qualifications and competencies. We hope that through this training, mentors will be better prepared to provide quality learning to FETP participants later.”
Mentor training participants were also enthusiastic in participating in this activity. They saw this as an opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of field epidemiology as well as the skills to teach these concepts to the next generation. The mentors also highlighted the importance of collaboration between academics and practitioners in the field to address public health challenges.
This mentor training activity is a milestone that marks the beginning of Undip’s FETP program. Hopefully, through this collaborative effort, it will be able to produce epidemiologists who are reliable and highly dedicated in maintaining the health of the Indonesian people.
