Higher education in Indonesia is growing and making an important contribution to solving public health problems. On June 8, 2022, Diponegoro University (Undip) Master of Epidemiology has established an innovative collaboration with the Center for Animal Health Research and Development (BBPKH) Cinagara. This collaboration aims to improve understanding and handling of zoonotic disease epidemiology that has the potential to endanger humans.

BBPKH Cinagara is an animal health research institution that has a crucial role in detecting, preventing and controlling diseases that can spread from animals to humans. This collaboration will provide mutually beneficial benefits for both parties. Undip’s Master of Epidemiology will utilize the expertise and facilities at BBPKH Cinagara to deepen knowledge of zoonotic disease epidemiology. Meanwhile, BBPKH Cinagara will gain insight and input from the experts and researchers of Undip’s Master of Epidemiology in designing and implementing effective animal health policies.

One of the main aspects of this collaboration is the exchange of knowledge and experience between researchers and students. Undip’s Master of Epidemiology will provide internship opportunities for BBPKH Cinagara students to be involved in the research being conducted. Conversely, researchers from BBPKH Cinagara will give guest lectures and guidance to Undip Master of Epidemiology students, enriching their learning experience.

This collaboration between Undip’s Master of Epidemiology and BBPKH Cinagara shows how important cross-sector collaboration is in research and education. Through this synergy, both institutions hope to produce innovations that can overcome complex health challenges and support the development of a healthier society in the future.

This collaboration is also expected to have a positive impact on the wider community. With a better understanding of zoonotic diseases and more effective prevention efforts, it is expected to reduce the risk of spreading diseases from animals to humans. In addition, Undip’s well-trained Master of Epidemiology graduates will be able to make a meaningful contribution in the field of public health.
